Ricky Kej

Ricky Kej is an Indian music composer and environmentalist. In 2015, he won a Grammy at the 57th Annual Grammy Awards for his album ‘Winds of Samsara’ in the Best New Age Album category. His album Shanti Samsara – World Music for Environmental Consciousness was launched at the 2015 United Nations Climate Change Conference by Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and then French president, Francois Hollande. He composed the music for the 2011 Cricket World Cup opening ceremony. In 2018, Kej was was the only Indian representative to be named in the "Real Leaders 100 List". Kej is also a professor at the National Institute of Advanced Studies (at the Indian Institute of Science).

Ricky Kej was born in 1981 in North Carolina. When he was in university, Ricky Kej was studying to be a dentist but ended up choosing a career in music. Kej’s mother, Pammi Kej, has opined many times that he has inherited his musical genes from his grandfather, Janaki Das, who was an actor, Olympic cyclist, and freedom fighter. Ricky Kej won another Grammy in 2021 for his album ‘Divine Tides’, along with Stewart Copeland.
