Alok Nath

Alok Nath is an Indian actor who is known throughout India, for playing mostly fathers or grandfathers’ characters in Bollywood films and Hindi serials.

Nath was born on 10 July 1956 in Khagaria, Bihar. He made his film debut in the 1982 Academy Award-winning film Gandhi, directed by Richard Attenborough.

He starred in Doordarshan’s highly acclaimed soap opera Buniyaad in 1986. Buniyaad was based on the aftermath of the Indian partition of 1947.

He also starred in many Hindi serials like Sapna Babul Ka...Bidaai, Yahaaan Main Ghar Ghar Kheli and Yeh Rishta Kya Kehlata Hai.

From December 2013, Alok Nath has become the subject of a recurring joke, fuelling many memes because of Nath’s natural tendency of playing highly positive, functional and/or ethical father or grandfather figures in films and serials. These memes often quote the Hindi word ‘Aadarshwadi’ which means highly principled or honourable.

In October 2018, In the midst of India’s own Me Too movement, Alok Nath was accused by rape by TV producer Vinta Nanda who worked with him in the TV show Tara in the mid-90s. After that, several female co-stars and co-workers of his have come up with allegations of assault by him or at least knowledge of the same.
